This is not a mere painting of an astronaut; This is a painting of Buzz Aldrin- a living legend who hates being called “the second person setting foot on the moon”. He’s also the one that took the first selfie in space. What interests me a lot is (the neglect) that the majority of people only know Neil Armstrong and have never heard of Buzz Aldrin, nor of Michael Collins, the 3rd guy on the Apollo 11 mission to the moon, who stayed inside. All three together achieved human magnificence, not just one. The other interesting fact is that there was a 50/50 chance that they would succeed (and return alive), and all involved knew this. (Talk about faith!) It’s more and more interesting; you would think that all would be stellar for Buzz Aldrin when he returned to earth but actually it was quite the opposite: his mother killer herself (Buzz thinks he’s fame had something to do with it and felt guilty the remainder of his life) and he battled alcohol abuse.
